In this in-depth interactive workshop, analyze the most frequent methodological pitfalls in movement disorders research and learn practical strategies to improve study design, choose effective outcome measures, and accurately interpret results.

Tentative Schedule:

Module 1: Designing a Clinical Study
Formulating a research question using structured frameworks (PICOT, FINER criteria); choosing appropriate study designs (cross-sectional, cohort, case-control, RCTs); defining study objectives and eligibility criteria; practical considerations for study implementation including funding, team roles, participant reimbursement, and resource planning

Interactive Exercise: Design a basic research protocol for a movement disorders question

Module 2: Choosing Outcome Measures
Clinical scales in movement disorders; psychometric properties (validity, reliability, responsiveness); alignment of outcomes with research questions and disease stage

Interactive Exercise: Select appropriate outcome measures for a clinical scenario

Module 3: Common Errors and Bias in Movement Disorders Research
Confounding and selection bias; underpowered studies and misinterpretation of p-values; endpoint switching and selective reporting; overinterpretation of exploratory analyses

Interactive Exercise: Identify bias and methodological flaws in an abstract, and rewrite a flawed research aim
