The MDS-AS Train the Trainer Pilot Program focuses on training and education for allied health professionals within the MDS-African Section. 

This regional pilot program will utilize the Train the Trainer Education model, wherein MDS provides curriculum, resources, training and support to regionally identified trainers, who are then expected to utilize these materials to teach allied health professionals in their local languages and organizations.  Support will be provided to all selected applicants.

The pilot program will occur over the course of 11 months, from August 2022 - June 2023*, and will require participation of selected applicants for the entire duration. 


Who Should Apply

MDS members that reside in the African Section who have:  

  • Experience working with patients in a clinical setting that are or work with allied health professionals on a consistent basis.  
  • A dedication to teaching and training foundational principles of healthcare professionals. 
  • Proficiency in both English and the local language of their local constituents.   


Pilot Activities and Timeline

The MDS-AS Train the Trainer Pilot Program occurs from August 2022 – June 2023 and includes the following components: 

August 2022 – January 2023
MDS Training/Education
MDS Sponsored Training (inclusive of virtual/in-person training sessions, online activities, and ongoing mentorship between program faculty and trainers). Program curriculum will support Trainers to prepare to prepare and implement training programs for allied health professionals in their local languages and organizations. 

  • Virtual Training Components: Trainers complete a series of virtual sessions fortnightly over a period of 2 months – August 5, August 19, September 2, September 30 and October 14.  
  • In-person Training Components: Trainers complete a 2 day training focusing on assessment and treatment techniques with real patients – November 17 and November 18th, Venue Location TBA. 
     

January 2023 – June 2023
Local Training Program Development and Implementation
Trainers present local training programs at their local institutions or appropriate national society event. Trainers are responsible for all aspects of the development and implementation of their local training programs. Expert faculty will continue to assist in an advisory capacity. 

By June 2023
Trainer Reporting
Trainers to share written report of local training event using the provided evaluation and reporting templates. 


Accepted Trainers must complete all components of the MDS-AS Pilot Program outlined above. 


Applications

Applications for the 2022-2023 program have closed. They will not reopen until the completion of the current program.
