In this session, the faculty will give an overview on fundamental physiological underpinnings of DBS from animal work to computational methods; present clinical criteria for patient selection and discuss current translational developments of DBS optimization for clinical practice.

At the conclusion of this session, participants should be better able to:

  1. Discuss our current understanding of the biological function of a-synuclein and how it is pathologically related with synucleinopathies
  2. Recognize the value of a-synuclein as a biomarker in Parkinson’s disease and other synucleinopathies
  3. Assess the status of therapeutic strategies aimed at lowering and preventing the spread of a-synuclein pathology
